The European Honey Bee (Apis Mellifera) is what we are most familiar with in this part of the country. There are only three kinds of honeybee found in a colony the Queen, worker and drone. Each bee has its own specific function within the colony. The colony is known as a super organism because all of the bees work together for the common good of the whole hive. A bee cannot survive on its own for an extended period of time. Honeybees are primarily utilized, by man, for pollination. They also provide other products from the hive including honey, beeswax, pollen, propolis and royal jelly.
